What is an endowment?
An endowment is a fund of money which is intended to provide a
permanent income for the school. Each year an amount of money representing
the income earned on the fund is paid out to the school to help
meet its operating needs. The amount of the fund will grow through
future contributions, but only the representative earnings are spent
each year. |
Is this campaign going to keep tuition down
in general or is it just for tuition assistance?
- The campaign will help both to keep tuition down and fund financial
aid. To some degree, the early priority will be placed on improving
our financial aid picture. Over the long haul an endowment is
key to keeping tuition affordable. There are normally four legs
of support for a Catholic School: (1) Tuition, (2) Fund Raising,
(3) Parish Support, (4) Endowment. The Rapid City Catholic School
System is presently missing the fourth leg of the financial platform.

How much support is provided by the parishes?
The five local parishes are contributing over $300,000 for the
2003-2004 school year. |
What is current enrollment of the RCCSS?
- There are presently 714 students enrolled in preschool through
12th grade.

How many students are receiving tuition assistance?
- 20% of the students are receiving tuition assistance.

What percentage of our students go on to attend
college or university?
- 96% of our students go on to higher education.

How many teachers are employed by the RCCSS?
- There are currently 50 teachers in the RCCSS. 21 (42%) teach
at Seton elementary, 11 (22%) teach at Seton middle school, and
18 (36%) teach at STM. 46% of the teachers have Bachelor degrees,
36% have Bachelor degree + 15 hours, and 18% have Master degrees.

How do the RCCSS teacher’s salaries/benefits
compare with the salaries of teachers in the Rapid City Public School
System?
- The base pay starts at 90% of the Rapid City Public School System’s
wage schedule for first year teachers. There is no retirement
plan and the insurance plan is not competitive.

- Approximately $2.7 million.
