Mrs. Fritz has access to and information about dozens of scholarship opportunities. Last year's graduating class accumulated nearly 4 million dollars in scholarship awards.
New Opportunities for 2011-2012!
RC Elks Lodge is offering a $1000 Vocational/Technical scholarship that includes a 350 word essay. Deadline is Dec. 2 and applications are available with Ms. Fritz.
The Coss Family scholarship is now available for monies between $500 and $3500! Deadline is Feb. 10th and seniors can apply at www.sms.scholarshipamerica.org/cossfamily or see me.
Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa offers an additional scholarship of $1000 to $3000 for a senior who visits their campus before Feb.15. A minimum GPA of 2.75, completed essay are also requirements for the Founder’s Award. Call 1 800 383 9600
Hills Materials Scholarships will be available until Mar. 1st. Seniors must show financial need, motivation, be available for an interview and have a minimum of C grades. Paper copies are in the main office, with Ms. Strand and Ms. Fritz.
The Young Entrepreneur foundation offers scholarships for seniors who are involved in operating a small business. Apply online at

Also there are upcoming webinars for parents who would like to review their financial Aid questions that are offered by Great Lakes College. These are on Dec. 6 and 7. STM will also host a financial aid night for parents on Monday, Jan. 9th.
SD Dept. of Labor is offering an essay contest for seniors with cash prizes of $1000 to $5000. Deadline is Jan. 17,2012 and details are on the website:

2011-12 Scholarship Information
The Art Institutes offer scholarships in design, fashion, photography and culinary opportunities. See Ms. Reinicke or myself for details.
A representative from Phillips Exeter Academy visited STM to share the program that they offer in New Hampshire. This high school offers several summer workshops and a post-graduate year that can be totally funded (if your income is under $75,000). This program is one for the student who thrives on academic rigor and living in a diverse community. Booklets and details available in #205.
National Honor Society offers scholarships for members at www.nhs.us/scholarshipfund

Contests that may interest our seniors include:
ALERT Magazine with a $500 award for an essay concerning drug and/or alcohol abuse. Visit the website for details. www.alertmagazine.org
US Bank offers forty $1000 scholarships for those who enter their random drawing. Visit their website: www.usbank.com
WUE--the Western Undergraduate Exchange Award--saves college students money if they attend a participating college and meet the state requirements. Details at their website or in #205.
